H&P co-founder Professor Simon Szreter explored the mechanisms and effects of England’s poor laws over 400 years to emphasize the importance of history to policy making today. He was speaking at the annual conference of the Centre for Science and Policy at Cambridge University, which focused on how the policy makers can make better use of expertise from the humanities. Together with the British Academy and Churchill College, Cambridge, H&P sponsored the conference, which included contributions from senior civil servants as well as scholars from a range of humanities' disciplines.
