H&P’s new History Lab was welcomed by civil servants from the Department for Transport, the Ministry of Defence and HM Treasury. They considered the lessons from the British railways 1955-1975 in an interactive event for Civil Service Learning led by Professor Colin Divall, of York University, and Dr Charles Loft, historian and adviser to the Local Government Association.
Director General Rail Executive at the Department for Transport, Clare Moriarty welcomed the History Lab. ‘I am absolutely passionate about learning from history and believe historical analogy can help us to formulate better policy,' she said.
More History Labs are planned as part of the civil service' Policy Profession Knowledge Series, run by the Policy Profession Support Unit as part of the government's commitment to bring a range of disciplines and inputs to bear on policy making.
