H&P Director, Dr. Andrew Blick, of the Institute of Contemporary British History, King's College London, was a guest of the British Ambassador to Poland at an international conference marking the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta.
Dr. Blick was the opening speaker at the day long event at Warsaw University on 9 October. As part of a distinguished international panel, he discussed some of the themes in his recently published book, 'Beyond Magna Carta: a constitution for the United Kingdom'.
Dr. Blick said: 'It was a pleasure to be invited to take part in this event, and I am grateful to the Embassy in Warsaw and the University for arranging it. The Magna Carta anniversary has proved to be an excellent opportunity not only to mark this important historic event, but also to consider contemporary constitutional and democratic challenges in the United Kingdom and worldwide. It is vital that history can inform discussions in this way.'
